Ranalisma rostratum is a small water plantain from the Asian tropics. In Europe, this plant is not very well-known yet, it is still very rare. The name is also written Ranalisma rostrata quite frequently. Under water, R. rostratum develops very narrow, lineal light green leaves and runners. It resembles Helanthium parvulum very much. In its emerged form, R. rostratum has roundish, spoon-like leaves and small white flowers, from which striking hedgehog-like aggregate fruits form. The plant is also suitable as grass-like ground-covering plant. Make sure the lighting is on the strong side, and add sufficient CO2 and nutrients. Like all rosette plants, Ranalisma rostratum likes a substrate rich in nutrients.
